Emerson Parent Group FAQs

WHO are we?
  We are a group of parents, just like you, and teachers who meet one a month.
WHAT does the Parent Group do?
    We coordinate fun family events (such as The Playstation and Super Skate Nights, Kernals Night and our annual carnival, Family Fun Night.)  We provide "Brain Food" for the 3rd graders when they take ITBS, snacks for the classrooms on the 100th Day of School, meals for the teachers during conferences, and lunches for each classroom when they are in the Eagle Spotlight.  We compile the annual Student Directory, we help provide volunteers for other special events at school throughout the year and much more!
    We also coordinate fundraisers for the school.  Last year we raised about $9,000 by collecting Box Tops for Education, Pizza Ranch Wheels, T-shirts sales and our 'Un-Fundraiser.  With this money, we were able to give around $3,000 back to the teachers for reimbursement for classroom supplies.  We also helped to provide financial support for field trips.
What is Emerson Idol?
    A class is picked each month to be showcased and a pizza lunch is provided.
WHY do we do what we do and why should I help?
    As our mission statement says, we want to create a positive learning environment where students and their families feel welcome and have a sense of community.
    Being involved with the Emerson Parent Group means that you will have a chance to meet other parents and you will help decide how the fundraising money is spent.
    Probably most important of all, research has shown that children of involved parents do better in school, have fewer behavior problems and are not as likely to use drugs or alcohol.
HOW much time are we talking about?
    Let's face it, time is at a premium for most families these days.  There never seems to be enough hours in a day to get everything done.  Being involved with the Emerson Parent Group means you get to decide how little or how much you would like to do.  Maybe you can only come to meetings to offer ideas.  Maybe you would like to coordinate one of our events.  Perhaps you only have an hour here or there where you are able to complete a task at home.  We appreciate involvement of any kind!
WHEN do we meet?
    We meet at 6:30p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the school (usually in the Art/Music Room).
